Santorini's wine is not simply a regional product. Assyrtiko, grown in the volcanic terroir of the island's black pumice soil, is one of the most distinctive white wines in the world: mineral, high-acid, and capable of ageing in bottle for two decades. The three premier estates — Domaine Sigalas near Baxedes, Estate Argyros near Episkopi Gonia, and Gaia Wines at Athinios — each offer private tasting programmes that require advance booking and discreet ground logistics. FFGR Greece provides both.
The Estate Circuit
A full Santorini wine estate circuit covers 60 kilometres of island roads, including several unpaved final approaches. The FFGR Greece wine programme vehicle is a Range Rover SV — chosen for its combination of interior comfort, luggage capacity for wine purchases, and the ability to navigate the volcanic gravel tracks at Sigalas without concern.
We programme three estates in a half-day: Sigalas at 10:00 am (the morning tasting, before the caldera tour groups arrive), Argyros at 12:30 pm (private cellar tasting by arrangement), and Gaia at 3:00 pm (terrace tasting with caldera view). The driver manages the logistics and timing; the client's only responsibility is to taste.
Purchase Handling and Export
Clients who purchase wine at the estates frequently acquire quantities that exceed standard airline luggage allowances. FFGR Greece maintains a relationship with a Fira-based wine merchant who provides temperature-controlled shipping to European and North American addresses. For clients departing by private jet from JTR, we coordinate direct loading of wine cases into the aircraft hold through the FBO.
For quantities exceeding 48 bottles, we arrange collection from the estate and deliver directly to the departure point — marina, helipad, or airport — the following morning. No wine purchased through an FFGR Greece estate programme has ever been left behind.
